Commercials

What are your thoughts about television commercials that show graphic or upsetting images of animal cruelty and animal abuse victims in an effort to gain support and bring in donations? I understand the rationale behind that kind of advertising-- it forces people to confront an issue that deserves public attention and it elicits a strong emotional response from viewers that makes them feel compelled to take action. Is there a better way to get people’s attention and make them care about this issue though? Is the greater issue of changing the way we treat animals and the need for support of the cause getting lost in the graphic content of such commercials? Would a greater number of people respond to and respect the animal welfare movement if we appealed to people objectively and with non-controversial tactics?
