Six Reasons To NOT See The Circus

  1. Circus animals are forced to endure an unnatural and painful existence. Many were taken from the wild, others have been bred in captivity - all have been removed from any resemblance of their natural habitat.

  2. The circus deprives animals of their basic needs to exercise, roam, socialize, forage and play. Stereotypical behaviors such as swaying back and forth, head-bobbing, pacing and self-mutilation are common signs of mental distress.

  3. Circus animals are exposed to cruel training techniques. Beatings, food deprivation and electric shocks are used to force the animals into submission and override their natural behaviors, fears and instincts.

  4. Circus animals spend the majority of their lives traveling in appalling conditions. During transport the animals are chained or crammed into small cages that are often hot, lack fresh air and adequate water supply.

  5. Circuses portray a distorted view of wildlife. In the wild lions and tigers don’t jump through hoops of fire and elephants don’t stand upright on their hind legs.

  6. Most elephants used by circuses were captured in the wild. Once removed from their families and natural habitat, their lives consist of little more than chains and intimidation.
